It seems that Microsoft have had their wrists slapped for not making their users aware of alternative browsers to Internet Explorer. So now they can't just recommend IE8 but have to give links to other browsers. I tend to stick to what I know but recently IE has been unreliable and has been freezing far too often during a match.

So i read the brief  info given on the other browsers and saw that Opera was the fastest. I have obviously heard of all the other browsers but other than google chrome I havent bothered trying them.

I have installed Opera this morning and have to say it is noticeably faster. it will be interesting to see how it performs during a match for the scoreboards and streams.

Might be worth a look if you havent already tried it.

Opera is generally thought of as the fastest browser generally in use – I find Firefox well up to the task myself.

It's probably more important to ensure that your browsing is fairly minimal when trading. You'd be surprised what any browser is doing when you have several pages open – Wallwatcher will keep an eye on security breaches etc., and will display just what internet activity your browsers' open pages are actually doing.

Best bet is only open those pages you want, live scores etc., close down others for your trading session. (And close down email clients, you can do without the distraction, as well as  the internet activity)

Oh, and don't use Google Chrome unless you're happy with a large corporation recording history of every webpage you ever connect to!

Just looked at Opera, but I can't find a way of having multiple windows/instances open like Chrome. Seems to open a new tab each time.

I think that's an area where Firefox scores over Opera, if I remember right.

Looked up somewhere on the Opera site last night. You can only have one instance open. Trying to open another window will only open another tab on the existing window.

Yes, they're all a little different – I like Opera's simplicity, but at the end of the day I prefer Firefox, (I use a Mac).

It happens to suit my browsing habits, I suppose. I particularly like being able to work through a window of tabs, and open any that are useful in a new window. I can then resize, typically live score web pages, or live video feeds, to suit.

Again, I am sure that shutting down unnecessary windows, email clients etc. will improve general response times – keep your PC workload light and try to avoid memory pressures……..

I have used Opera for some time and have generally found it to be very good but I do have one  problem with it on Betfair.

When I open the window to show the Graph and amounts matched etc on a  market it only shows the graph, there are no figures. I do not have this problem with Google or Firefox.

Also when using Opera I occasionally get a pop up message from Betfair saying that the browser will not support all functions, but it seems to work (ok apart from the graphs!)

The fact that I use Betting Assistant for trading means any other problems with Opera would not show up.

Interested to know if anyone else has experienced this problem.

Looks like you can actually have more than one Opera window open. In the menu options "Tabs and windows" dooh!
